Pharmacy First Service
Have you heard of the new Pharmacy First Service?
The Pharmacy First Service has been running since October 2019 and enables patients to be referred into community pharmacy for a minor illness or urgent repeat medication supply.
In January 2024 the new Pharmacy First Service was launched, enabling community pharmacists to complete episodes of care for 7 common conditions.
What are the 7 common conditions?

| Acute otitis media (middle ear infection) | 1 to 17 years |
| Impetigo | 1 year and over |
| Infected insect bites | 1 year and over |
| Shingles | 18 years and over |
| Sinusitis | 12 years and over |
| Sore throat | 5 years and over |
| Uncomplicated urinary tract infections | Women 16-16 years |
The Benefits of Pharmacy First
- Enables patients to obtain certain prescription medications directly from a pharmacy, without a GP appointment
- Frees up GP appointments for patients who need them most
- Gives patients quicker and more convenient access to safe and high quality healthcare
- Supplies patients with appropriate medicines for common conditions, aiming to address health issues before they get worse
- Convenient access to healthcare including support with healthy eating, exercise, stopping smoking, monitoring your blood pressure, contraception, flu and covid vaccinations
